About Coldcard
Built by Canadian company Coinkite, the Coldcard is the ultimate security device for Bitcoin maximalists. It is a Bitcoin-only hardware wallet that allows for "air-gapped" transactions via a MicroSD card, meaning the device never actually connects to an internet-enabled computer.
The Good
- The gold standard for Bitcoin-only security
- True "air-gapped" functionality via MicroSD
- Features a "Brick Me" distress PIN for physical safety
- Transparent plastic case allows physical auditing
The Bad
- Only supports Bitcoin (No Ethereum, Solana, or altcoins)
- Steep learning curve for absolute beginners
- Utilitarian UI compared to Ledger or Trezor
Hardware & Software Features
Open Source
Fully transparent source code allows for independent community auditing to ensure no backdoors or vulnerabilities exist.
Multi-Signature
Enhanced security architecture requiring multiple private key authorizations to execute a single transaction, eliminating single points of failure.
Secure Element Chip
Utilizes a dedicated hardware-hardened chip (EAL5+ or higher) designed specifically to protect sensitive biometric and cryptographic data.
Supported Assets (1+)

"The ultimate paranoia wallet for Bitcoin maxis. Using the microSD card to keep it totally air-gapped is awesome, but the setup is definitely not for beginners."
