At Ratebuddy Corp, we believe that privacy shouldn't be hidden in fine print. We are a Canadian fintech enterprise, and protecting your personal information is core to our architecture. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we need it, and how you control it under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws.
1. What We Specifically DO NOT Collect
To maximize your security, Ratebuddy operates on a "minimum viable data" model. We do not collect, request, or store your Social Insurance Number (SIN), your bank account login credentials, or official credit bureau reports. All financial profiles on our platform are self-reported estimates designed strictly for matching purposes.
2. The Information We Collect
When you use our Finder tools, Check Eligibility modals, or create an account, we collect the following:
- Identity & Contact Data: First and last name, email address, phone number, and province of residence.
- Financial Profile Data: Estimated annual income, self-assessed credit tier, employment status, and requested loan purpose/amount.
- Technical & System Data: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, and timestamp data. (This is strictly used for fraud prevention, bot mitigation, and regional compliance).
3. How We Share Your Data (The Marketplace)
Ratebuddy is a financial marketplace. When you explicitly opt-in by submitting a "Check Eligibility" or "Find Loans" request, you are directing us to share your profile with our trusted network of third-party lending partners.
This allows them to review your profile and offer you accurate rates. Our partners are bound by strict confidentiality agreements and Canadian privacy laws. We do not sell your data to random third parties; it is strictly routed to financial institutions and verified brokers capable of fulfilling your specific loan request.
We may also share anonymized, aggregated data (which cannot identify you) for market research and analytics.
4. Your Control & Privacy Rights
Under PIPEDA and provincial legislation like Quebec’s Law 25, you maintain ultimate control over your personal data. You have the right to:
- Access & Portability: Request a copy of the exact data Ratebuddy holds about you.
- Rectification: Correct any inaccurate or incomplete information in your profile.
- Withdrawal of Consent: Opt-out of marketing communications or lead-sharing at any time.
- The Right to be Forgotten: Request the permanent deletion of your PII from our active databases.

5. Security & Retention
Your data is secured using enterprise-grade encryption (TLS/SSL) in transit and at rest. We only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, to provide you with our services, or to comply with legal and regulatory obligations. Once your data is no longer needed, it is securely destroyed or irreversibly anonymized.
