RateBuddy Pro Tip

Don’t just look at the fee. Compare the total amount your recipient receives after fees and exchange rate — that’s where the real savings are.

A “good” rate is one that is close to the mid-market rate (the real rate you see on Google or XE). The bigger the gap between the provider’s rate and the mid-market rate, the more you’re paying in hidden fees.

  • First, search your currency pair (e.g. “CAD to BDT”) on Google.
  • Then, compare how much your provider offers for the same amount.
  • If the difference is large, consider another provider listed on RateBuddy.

Yes – when you use trusted, regulated providers. On RateBuddy, we only feature companies that:

  • Are supervised by financial regulators (e.g. FINTRAC, FCA, etc.).
  • Use bank-level encryption to protect your details.
  • Keep your money in segregated or safeguarded accounts.

As an extra precaution, always double-check the recipient details before confirming a transfer.

It depends on the provider, payment method, and destination country, but here’s a simple guide:

  • Cash pickup: often minutes to a few hours.
  • Bank deposit: usually a few hours to 1–2 business days.
  • To remote banks: can take a bit longer if extra checks are required.

Many providers show an estimated delivery time before you confirm – compare that across services to find the best speed–cost balance.

Requirements vary by country, but you’ll usually need:

  • Your full name and contact details.
  • The recipient’s full name (matching their ID).
  • The recipient’s bank account number or mobile wallet number.
  • The recipient’s bank name and branch details – sometimes a SWIFT/BIC code or routing number.
  • In some cases, a short note about the purpose of the transfer (e.g. “family support”).

Always follow the provider’s on-screen instructions carefully to avoid delays or failed transfers.

Most providers earn money in two ways:

  • Visible fee: what you see as a “transfer fee” or “service fee”.
  • Exchange rate margin: the difference between the mid-market rate and the rate they charge you.

A provider with a low fee but a bad rate can be more expensive than one with a small fee and an excellent rate. Always compare the total amount your recipient receives.

Delays can happen if banks or regulators need extra checks, or if details were entered incorrectly. If your transfer is taking longer than expected:

  • Check the transfer status in the provider’s app or website.
  • Confirm the recipient’s details are correct (name, account number, SWIFT code, etc.).
  • Contact customer support with your reference number for an update.

Good providers will keep you updated by email or app notifications until the money is delivered or refunded.

In many cases, bank-to-bank transfers or transfers to a mobile wallet can be cheaper than cash pickup, because cash networks are more expensive to maintain.

That said, cash pickup can be worth the extra cost if your recipient doesn’t have a bank account or needs the money immediately. Use RateBuddy to compare both options side by side for your corridor.
